2019 – A Memorable Year

2019 – A Memorable Year.

To transform any project into reality, it is essential that its foundation be robust. With this principle in mind, the Bullet Train Project—one of India's most ambitious undertakings, on which work has been progressing successfully over the past few years—achieved several milestones this year as well. Thanks to the unwavering dedication of the institute's officials and the professional expertise of the Japanese engineers in strengthening the project's foundation, several critical tasks were completed; these included land acquisition, the construction of the Vadodara Training Institute, tree plantation for environmental conservation, skill development programs, and collaborative efforts regarding the design of new stations. As a result, this project is rapidly taking shape as a reality.

Joint Measurement Survey, Land Acquisition, and Consent Camp

In 2019, NHSRCL completed 93 percent of the Joint Measurement Survey (JMS) work. Meanwhile, under the land acquisition process, more than 50 percent of the land required for the project has already been acquired. In Gujarat's two major cities—Vadodara and Kheda—land acquisition figures have reached the 80% mark. To ensure the smooth execution of the land acquisition process, approximately 1,625 consent camps were organized, where the paperwork related to land acquisition is being processed with the consent of the families affected by the project. This serves as an indicator of the pace at which the project is progressing.

Infrastructure

Over the past year, NHSRCL has issued tenders for 70% of the civil works—including six of the twelve bullet train stations to be constructed in Gujarat and Mumbai. As the year 2019 drew to a close, NHSRCL also presented the people of Chhayapuri with the gift of a new station. NHSRCL accomplished this task by providing financial assistance to Western Railway for the reconstruction of the Chhayapuri station. Simultaneously, the construction of the hostel building and training facility at the High-Speed Rail Training Institute being established in Vadodara has been completed. Here, project-related officials and employees will receive necessary training. Similarly, construction work is also underway on the Sabarmati Hub building, which is being built adjacent to the proposed Sabarmati High-Speed Rail Station.

Environmental Protection

Under this project, special care is being taken to ensure that there is absolutely no wastage of natural resources; to this end, specialized machinery is being utilized to uproot trees lying along the project's alignment and transplant them to new locations. Furthermore, for those trees that cannot be relocated, a maximum number of replacement trees are being planted in their stead. NHSRCL is also ensuring the efficient utilization of rainwater, a commitment reflected in the organization's ongoing efforts to establish "Green Depots." Additionally, the "Half Glass Full" campaign launched by the organization has become a topic of conversation among both visitors and employees. Through this initiative, the organization introduced a novel approach to curb water wastage, wherein employees and visitors were initially served only half a glass of water, with additional water provided subsequently based on their specific requirements.

Environmental Protection
Praise and Awards

NHSRCL has been honored with the Geospatial Application Excellence Award for the successful adoption of LiDAR technology under the project. Furthermore, for the successful execution of the project, Managing Director Mr. Achal Khare was conferred with the A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Innovation Award. Additionally, consultations held with World Bank officials, as well as the encouragement extended to the officials of the High-Speed Rail Training Institute by the Honorable Minister of State for Railways, Mr. Suresh Angadi, hold a special place in the list of commendable achievements of this year.

Skill Development Program

The pivotal axis of this project consists of the very people without whose contributions the realization of the Bullet Train project would not have been possible—namely, the families who have contributed their land to this endeavor. For these very project-affected families, NHSRCL is implementing an Income Restoration Plan (IRP), under which training is being provided in areas such as Tally & Accounting, Computer Hardware, and Beauty Courses. Through this initiative, many women have secured temporary employment in government institutions, while numerous individuals are taking their first steps toward entrepreneurship. Moreover, all these individuals have emerged as inspiring role models for their own families as well as for many other families in their vicinity.

Indeed, over the past year, NHSRCL has successfully laid the foundation for India's Bullet Train project; with the advent of the new year, the pace of work is expected to accelerate even further. This project—poised to propel the nation to new heights of progress and success—will stand as a shining exemplar of modern technology within the country, thereby further enhancing India's image on the global stage.
