Media Brief: 200m long ‘Make in India’ Steel Bridge for Mumbai Ahmedabad Bullet Train Project
Published Date: 01-03-2025
  • The bridge comprises of two spans of 100 meter each and will be launched over National Highway – 48 (connecting Delhi, Mumbai & Chennai) near Nadiad
  • This 14.3 m wide and 14.6 m in height, steel bridge weighs around 1500 MT (each span) and has been fabricated at Salasar workshop near Hapur, U.P.
  • The jointing of steel members is done using Tor Shear Type High Strength Bolts (TTHSB) designed for a 100-year lifespan
  • The spans of the bridge are painted with C-5 system painting which is first-of-its-kind in India
  • Steel bridges are most suitable to cross Highways, Expressways and Railways lines, unlike pre-stressed concrete bridges, spanning 40 to 45 meters, which are suitable for most sections, including river bridges
  • India has the expertise of fabricating steel bridges for heavy haul and semi high-speed trains which run between 100 and 160 kmph. Now, the same expertise in fabrication of steel girders will be implemented on MAHSR corridor too which will have a staggering operational speed of 320 kmph.
  • Total 28 steel bridges are planned in MAHSR project. Out of which, 11 steel bridges are in Maharashtra and 17 are in Gujarat
  • Six steel bridges have been successfully launched in Gujarat over Railways/DFCC tracks, Highways & Bhilosa Industry
  • One of the span of this steel bridge is planned to be launched in March 2025 and to be completed by August 2025
