Published Date: 09-10-2025

Union Minister of Railways Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw visited key construction sites of the Mumbai–Ahmedabad High Speed Rail (Bullet Train) project in Sabarmati, Ahmedabad. During the visit, he reviewed the progress of works at the Sabarmati High Speed Rail (HSR) Station, the HSR Multimodal Transport Hub, and the Rolling Stock Depot.

Sabarmati HSR Station

The Sabarmati High Speed Rail Station, which will serve as the terminal station of the Mumbai–Ahmedabad Bullet Train corridor, is inspired by Mahatma Gandhi’s iconic Charkha at Sabarmati Ashram. The station is being constructed over an area of approximately 45,000 sq. m.

Structural work up to the track floor level has been completed, while interior finishing and MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing) works are currently in progress.

The station will provide world-class passenger facilities including waiting lounges, rest rooms, nursery, retail outlets, and commercial spaces. It will also be seamlessly integrated with existing railway, metro, and BRTS networks to ensure smooth connectivity.

Sabarmati HSR Multimodal Transport Hub

The Sabarmati HSR Multimodal Hub is being developed as a state-of-the-art facility to enable seamless connectivity between the Bullet Train station, Sabarmati Railway Station, Metro, and BRTS.

The front façade of the hub features a stainless-steel mural depicting the historic Dandi March, paying tribute to Sabarmati’s rich legacy.

The hub will include office spaces, hotel facilities, and various passenger amenities such as retail outlets and restaurants. It is designed to accommodate parking for approximately 1,200 vehicles.

In line with sustainable development goals, the hub incorporates green infrastructure elements such as solar panels, landscaped terraces, and energy-efficient systems.

Sabarmati HSR Rolling Stock Depot

The Sabarmati Rolling Stock Depot is the largest among the three depots planned under the project and is spread over an area of approximately 84 hectares.

The depot will support both light and heavy maintenance of trainsets and will include inspection lines, stabling lines, and workshop facilities.

Construction activities, including the administration building, inspection sheds, and utility infrastructure, are progressing at a rapid pace.

The depot is being developed with a focus on environmental sustainability, incorporating features such as rainwater harvesting, solar energy provisions, and zero liquid discharge treatment systems.

Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train Project Progress

The Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train project is progressing steadily with major milestones achieved:

• 325 km of viaduct and 400 km of pier work completed out of total 508 km

• 17 river bridges, 5 PSC bridges, and 10 steel bridges completed

• 216 km of track bed laid

• Over 4 lakh noise barriers installed along the corridor

• Station construction in Gujarat at advanced stage

• Rapid progress in Mumbai underground section

The Railway Minister appreciated the pace of work and emphasized that the project is on track for timely completion. He noted that India’s first Bullet Train project reflects the vision of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi for world-class infrastructure and a “Viksit Bharat @ 2047”.
