Contract Details: MAHSR-C-2 – Tunneling Works for Mumbai-Ahmedabad High Speed Rail Corridor

Name of the Contract: Construction of tunneling works including testing and commissioning for double line High Speed Railway using Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) and New Austrian Tunneling Method (NATM) for the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High Speed Rail Project (Package No. MAHSR-C-2).

Alignment: Between Mumbai Underground Station at Bandra-Kurla Complex (MAHSR Km. 0.773) and Shilphata (MAHSR Km. 21.150) in the state of Maharashtra.

Completion Period: 1280 days (approximately 3.5 years).

Geotechnical Investigations:

Static Refraction Technique (SRT Survey) was used to carry out geotechnical investigations for the undersea tunnel section. The final report for the survey was submitted last year.

Environmental Clearances:

India’s apex institutions, namely the Zoological Survey of India (ZSI), Mangroves Survey of India (MSI), and National Institute of Oceanography (NIO), have conducted studies to assess the environmental impact of the project in the affected area.

  • ZSI has reported minimal disturbance to wildlife in the region.
  • No mangroves will be cut, as the tunnel will pass 20–40 meters below ground/sea level.

All environmental clearances from relevant authorities, including the Coastal Regulation Management Authority, National Board for Wildlife, and Forest Department, have either been obtained or have received in-principle approval.
